The initiative was implemented by the Presidency of the University of Zakho in collaboration with the university’s Sustainable Development Goals Center and relevant environmental authorities, as part of a new phase of the university’s environmental awareness campaign.
During the current phase of the project, approximately 200 trees were planted as a continuation of the broader plan aimed at reaching the target of one thousand trees across the campus.
The project also seeks to strengthen social and environmental responsibility by raising awareness among students and university staff regarding environmental protection and adaptation to climate change.
The initiative forms part of the university’s long-term strategy to support the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of climate action, biodiversity conservation, and the promotion of sustainable cities and communities through the creation of a healthier educational and living environment.
The University of Zakho administration reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the project until the final target is achieved, with the aim of transforming the university campus into a leading environmentally sustainable model among universities in the region, benefiting both students and the wider community.
